Organizations, tools, research
A working portfolio of organizations founded, tools shipped, and research and convenings led over the past twenty-five years.
Social enterprises and initiatives I founded

A specialized organization at the intersection of AI, child protection, and digital rights – advising technology companies, governments, and international bodies, and red-teaming the consumer AI products children use.

A strategic advisory practice helping multilateral organizations, governments, and NGOs deploy AI responsibly across health, education, and economic development.
An independent global fellowship – 66 researchers from 23 countries, with a deliberate Global South focus – studying how AI shapes children's cognition, learning, relationships, creativity, and well-being.

Founded the unit that built technology and innovation strategy across a 4,300-person, 70-country NGO, running an earned-revenue model and shipping tools used across 60+ countries.

Founded Save the Children's global initiative and taskforce to prevent and respond to online violence against children, and established its Technology for Development practice.

A Santiago-based social enterprise designing and managing innovative ICT-for-development projects across the Americas.
Data & AI tools I co-developed
Originated the partnership using ML and generative AI to extract, interpret, visualize, and draw insights from humanitarian data, and the Humanitarian AI Assistant built on it.

Led development of a prototype ML classifier and chatbot to detect online grooming in chats with children.

DatAgro

Built a multiple-award-winning mobile/SMS market-information service that raised the productivity of Chilean smallholder farmers.
Yo Agricultor
An SMS information service for Chile's small farmers – market prices, weather, and technical guidance on basic phones, with a training video library that has drawn more than a million views.
A rural connectivity platform to support Agro-entrepreneurship by combining a social web application with SMS, guidance on effective farming techniques, and agricultural input group negotiations.

DatAgro
A multiple-award-winning mobile and SMS market-information service that raised the productivity of Chilean smallholder farmers and cooperatives, delivering crop prices and agronomic guidance straight to farmers' phones. The short animation explains how it worked – switch between English and Spanish narration below.

WISE – Wireless Solutions for Fisheries in Senegal
Senegal's fisheries employ more than 600,000 people, yet artisanal fishers and the women who process their catch are squeezed by a lack of timely price information, credit, and best-practice know-how. WISE, funded by Qualcomm Wireless Reach, put advanced wireless technology to work for them: an electronic fish-market price system over a 3G network, mobile-money loans through local microfinance institutions, mobile video on processing best practices, and health and HIV-prevention education – with a deliberate focus on closing the gender gap. A collaboration of FHI 360, Qualcomm Wireless Reach, the Senegalese Food Security Commission, Intermondes, and TIGO-Senegal.
CHAI – Enabling Farmers to Adapt to Climate Change
In Uganda, where farming is mostly rainfed, drought and erratic weather hit hard and farmers get little information to cope. CHAI, implemented by FHI 360 and funded by Canada's IDRC, turned weather and market data into action: more than 120,000 farmers receive seasonal and short-term forecasts, agricultural advisories in their own languages, weekly crop and livestock prices, and low-cost rainwater-harvesting guidance – over SMS, interactive FM radio, community loudspeakers, and print, and two-way, so farmers text or call in questions and hear answers live on air. The project cut crop loss and damage by as much as 65% – worth $474–573 more per household each year – and won the 2023 UN Global Climate Action Awards for Information and Communications Technology Solutions.
Research & convenings I led
Understanding TFGBV: A Child-Centered Framework

Conceived, funded, led, and co-authored Save the Children's framework on technology-facilitated gender-based violence against children.
Online Grooming Research

Co-Principal Investigator on a seven-country study of how children experience online grooming, supported by the Tech Coalition Safe Online Research Fund.

Youth Voices on AI

A project centering young people's own perspectives on the technology reshaping their lives – connecting youth voice to the people building and governing frontier AI systems, with Anthropic, Western Sydney University's Young and Resilient Research Centre, Australia's eSafety Commissioner, and Common Good AI.

Global convenings I co-founded

Co-founded the USAID Symposium for Protecting Children and Youth from Digital Harm (2022, 2024) and the Global Digital Development Forum's Protection from Digital Harm (2023) and Tech-facilitated GBV (2024) tracks.
