Childhood & AI Lab Research Fellowship

The Childhood & AI Lab Research Fellowship mobilizes researchers around the world to study a question the technology industry is answering by default and at scale: what is AI doing to childhood? It looks at how AI shapes children's cognition, learning, relationships, creativity, and well-being.

The fellowship is deliberately global. It brings together 66 fellows from 23 countries, with a purposeful focus on the Global South, where most of the world's children live and where the evidence base is thinnest. That breadth is the point – findings that hold only for children in wealthy countries are not findings about childhood.

It launched as an unfunded initiative and drew an overwhelming response, which says something about how many serious researchers were waiting for a place to do this work. The Lab is a project of AIChildSafety.org.
