Understanding TFGBV: A Child-Centered Framework

Technology-facilitated gender-based violence against children is widely discussed and poorly defined, which makes it hard to prevent or respond to. I conceived, secured funding for, led, and co-authored Save the Children's framework to give the field a shared, child-centered way to understand it.

The framework is grounded in research with children and experts across five countries – Colombia, Egypt, Kenya, the Philippines, and South Africa – and organizes the problem around four contextual factors: socialization, development, identity, and influential actors. It was co-authored with Krista Bywater, Erin Leasure, and Connor Roth.

It is designed to be used, not shelved: to help practitioners and policymakers see where technology-facilitated harm comes from and where prevention and response can actually intervene.
