El Comercio reports that the platform behind DatAgro is being adapted for farmers in Peru. The Yaku project, run with the Junta de Usuarios del Valle de Chancay in the Huaral valley and supported by the Cepes research center, uses the same MIP technology to give farmers access to reliable information on crop production and water management.

The article quotes John Zoltner, director for Latin America at DataDyne, on the value of fast, text-based information for farm decisions. It says DatAgro’s farmers in Chile used the mobile phones they already had rather than smartphones, and that about 400 members of the Coopeumo cooperative took part.

If the International Development Research Centre approves financing for the Peruvian project, about 70,000 families in the Lima coastal valley would benefit.
